Our History
2008
Our mission began with a life changing journey
Mark and Dorothy Primack, the founders of Primo Driving Schools, know firsthand how precious it is to stay safe on the road. Their journey began with a life-altering experience while on a trip with friends.
During the trip, the bus driver became distracted, and at 70 MPH, the vehicle flipped on its side before coming to a stop. Though Mark and Dorothy were fortunate to survive, not everyone did.
That devastating moment changed everything. It gave them a profound appreciation for life and sparked a mission: to make roads safer by teaching new drivers how to drive responsibly and safely.
Primo Driving Schools was born from that purpose. Every lesson we teach is guided by Mark and Dorothy’s commitment to helping others avoid unnecessary tragedies and ensuring every student becomes a skilled, confident driver. We’re not just a driving school; we’re a team dedicated to making a difference—one driver at a time.
2012
Primo launches one car & one instructor.
After developing best methods and practices for instruction Mark Primack opens Primo Driving School in Santa Monica. Mark instructs every student, slowly building clientele through an impeccable reputation.
2018
Primo acquires Westwood Driving School
Primo purchases Westwood Driving School, and moves into their former office in Westwood village. Westwood Driving School had been proudly serving its community since 1983, and carried a proud tradition of exceptional instruction. Westwood’s top instructors and customer service staff, including Regis McNicholas & Amanda Nelson, still assist customers everyday at Primo.
2023
UCLA partners with Primo
In an effort to train fleet operators and drivers of all kinds, UCLA partners with Primo Driving Schools to provide specialized training for staff. Primo begins “Primo Fleets”, a corporate and governmental training arm to support businesses and municipalities in our area through enhanced driver training.
